Biography
Dr. Georgi V. Petkov is a professor of pharmacology at the University of South Carolina. He received his PhD degree in physiology from the University of Sofia in 1997. His research interest is in the mechanisms that regulate urinary bladder smooth muscle function and the role of ion channels in this tissue. His recent studies have helped to identify ion channels as new pharmacological targets for urinary bladder dysfunction. His current research program is funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH). He has published a number of peer-reviewed papers in journals such as J Physiol, Am J Physiol, J Urol, JPET and many others. He serves as editor, associate editor, and reviewer for multiple peer-reviewed journals. He is currently a standing member of the Urologic and Genitourinary Physiology and Pathology NIH Study Section. He has given many invited seminars worldwide and received various international academic awards.
